I really wish the MTA would publish a handy little book composed of all those detailed and scaled maps that are in all the subway stations clearly showing the local neighborhood surrounding the station (detailed street map, station entries, points of interest etc). I would think the MTA could make a fortune selling the books.

Call it the Subway Atlas

John Tauranac (the designer of the 1979 subway map) left for "private practice" and now publishes his own, block-level atlas of Manhattan which offers the same detail coverage as the station maps.

Many station wall map posters are often dated, though. Until a company comes out with block level-detail maps for the other four boroughs, we'll have to wait.
