The original 1964 World's Fair "Bluebird" turquoise blue on the R36 World's Fair cars. The Redbird scheme is among the tops.
You forget kale green, as it was used on several R33 ML and R10 cars in the mid to late 80s. It would be nice to see a R36WF in kale green.

Bold David Gunn White, while not the best, was basically a bold message!

The all-white scheme dated before the David Gunn administration. It first appeared circa 1982, while the deep red that would later evolve into "Redbird red" was "David Gunn red", first introduced around 1985-86 (Gunn was appointed in 1984).

If memory serves, it was Simpson (no, not Bart or Homer - was his name John?) who painted the fleet white, built the double fence with real German shepherds inside, and dared anyone to do grafiti on them.

Yes and no. A 11-car R36/33WF train on the 7 was the first train to recieve the all-white scheme. Transit officials decided to park it at various locations to see if it would get tagged. Also razor wire and guard dogs were placed at Corona Yard. The experiment worked, the train was ess likely to be tagged than others.

When the white scheme was later used on the IRT Main Lines, the situations was different. The cars were tagged as often as others, possibly doue to easy access to yards and layup tracks.
