Not sure what department he was working for, but as a former C/F I know first-hand the dangers of setting out the lanterns. My condolences go out to his family and co-workers.

Tragic. We should be able to prevent stuff like this in this day and age. You mentioned lantens, so i was wondering what are the dangers of setting out lanterns anyway? I mean isn't it to helpc reate safety to begin with?

Work on, or in the vicinity of active tracks is a hazard to trained employees.

Employees are trained in handling these hazards. If they don't have the required training,
or don't follow rules and procedures then it becomes dangerous.

In my experience employees are not asked to preform any dangerous tasks.

As we can all agree, doing anything dangerous can lead to death or serious injury.

I thought somebody was struck recently. I didn't know that this was referring to one of the 2007 incidents until I saw the date. Thank God.
