Washington has a fair number of outside escalators (I wondered about that when they put them in). Anybody know what their experience has been?

They've been plagued with problems (both exposure to weather and dirt, plus WMATA's lack of maintenance) and WMATA has been gradually building roofs over them as time goes on. You'd think this would have provided a valuable data point for consideration...
