In the wee hours of March 27th, a northbound 2 train at 110-Central Park North on the IRT Lenox line caught fire. Definitely suspicious circumstances, and the damage is absolutely unreal. Several passenger and firefighter injuries, and unfortunately the train operator perished as a result of trying to evacuate his train.

May Garret Goble rest in peace.

As of midnight on 3/28/20: 1 trains were still bypassing 86th Street and 96th Street due to related investigations. (Garbage can fires before the incident at 110). There is obviously no Lenox service, and 2's are running via the east side.

I would be willing to bet money that 110 will be bypassed for quite some time once service on the Lenox line is restored, that's definitely not going to be a quick fix.

With ADA access comes new hazards like shopping carts, like the cart used to "firebomb" that train,a dead motorman has created some
union outrage, along with minor public outrage.
2 cars are bound for scrapping,an orphan equipment set that will turn into parts supplys, and 3 stations with fire damage to boot.
NYPD may have 1 or 2 possible suspects under investigation.
The pics of the burned out cars are hard to look at,all the seating is gone sidewalls are burned out,due to all the fiberglass and plastic
used in the cars construction, the motorman was found on the trackway, the cab wall had cracked in the car..

From the youtube vids posted on NYC transit forums, the toxic smoke from the 2 burned out cars was very thick, the head end of that # 2
train was not visable .

Did everyone hear the news stations announcing repeatedly that the train "conductor" had been killed? I'm amazed how the media people can't distinguish between train operators & engineers vs. conductors. NBC news is especially guilty of these kinds of mis-statements of facts, more than the other stations.
