New Canaan minor derailment: http://www.stamfordadvocate.com/local/a ... 247921.php" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
...One car on the derailed train is partially blocking the track leading to New Canaan station.

New Canaan branch southbound service will originate from Talmadge Hill station that is south of New Canaan station.

The incident is causing delays between 45 and 60 minutes and there is no time estimate when regular service will be restored.

The derailment happened in the rail yard at New Canaan station, according to Aaron Donovan, Metro-North spokesman.

Donovan said there were no passengers on the train when one car’s wheel left the track. The car is still standing on the track and equipment will be needed to reposition it on the track.

Metro-North: Faulty switch caused New Canaan derailment

NEW CANAAN — The derailment of a Metro-North train last week as it slowly maneuvered in a New Canaan yard was caused by a faulty switch, a preliminary investigation concluded.

Metro-North spokesman Aaron Donovan said Wednesday a one-eighth inch gap in a switch that allows trains to change tracks caused the derailment. The switch has since been repaired, he said.

“The preliminary finding is that this appears to have been a low speed wheel climb derailment,” Donovan said.
The rest of the article quotes the "usual suspects".

Lower Hudson has CSX freight cars standing on tracks 2 and 1 between Riverdale and Spuyten Duyvil. Leftovers from a train separation overnight. Service apparently not being effected at this time. But things might get a little tight with 2 tracks out out to start the morning rush.

Metro North construction equipment derails

A piece of construction equipment derailed on a Metro North Railroad track Thursday afternoon, injuring one worker and causing delays of up to 20 minutes on New Haven Line trains.

The equipment, a tie inserter, derailed between the Cos Cob and Greenwich stations shortly after noon, Metro North officials said.

“A worker suffered a minor injury, it appears to be a lump on the head and a laceration,’’ spokeswoman Nancy Gamerman said.

Trains are operating on the one track that remains in use, which is causing the delays, she said.

Woke up during the night and heard a diesel revving and slowing repeatedly, and more horn noise than usual. This morning there were a half-dozen MNRR trucks parked by the Pondfield Road overpass, track 1 was o/o/s and northbound passengers were being asked to board from a single bridgeplate. The twitter feed just says "disabled equipment," curious as to what that was.

30mins late tonight because of, according to the announcement, "single tracking in the tunnel." Not sure what happened but the 5:58 to Crestwood, which usually leaves from Track 111, was on 39 instead.

Metro-North train strikes car in Darien
...
Eight minutes later, the car's occupants heard the train coming and exited the vehicle before it was smashed.

According to officials, there were only four passengers on the train at the time. None of them were hurt, nor were the two people in the car. Because of the time of the crash, there was no service disruption.

Kellner's daughter got a summons for failing to stop at a railroad crossing, but Kellner says they will fight it.

Massive delays this morning on the Harlem & New Haven. My usual train- 310- cancelled. Everyone on the platform at Bronxville piled onto 312 when it showed up; that train was so crowded that people had trouble boarding after Woodlawn. The recorded announcement at B'ville said the express was cancelled "due to trackwork;" all the crew told us was that all trains were running at restricted speed and all trains were delayed. Seemed like there were only 2 tracks in service between Melrose and the bridge but I couldn't tell for sure- was on the wrong side of the train.

That is correct sir, a contractor high rail vehicle within CP106.

Huge delay at Greenwich due to the cos cob bridge not locking correct.. 3:43 train was cancelled 4:13 delayed.. what I don't get is trains running on the center track.. and trains headed to New Haven so obviously trains are running over the bridge.

if bridge lock for a certain track does not seat, it will not allow trains over that track
