This morning there was an announcement on the southbound redline platform at dtx that "garble garble downtown station will be closed due to construction (train rushing in)....."

any idea?

Well, Savin Hill is closed until next year, and the entire Ashmont Branch will be shut down and bustituted on Memorial Day weekend. No word on construction-related closures at Downtown Crossing itself, at least according to MBTA's online transit updates.
