If the cars have standees on a regular basis, I wonder if 2+2 plus two standees is better than 3+2 plus one standee. Probably easier for the conductor/disembarking passengers to get through a crowded train?

The bomb seats were 2x2. I'd prefer to keep the functionality of being able to flip the old seats but I'm sure that's not even a factor under consideration (the deactivated ones still flip, only the foot-pedal has been disconnected from the linkage).

Back in 2009, you said they were 2x2, which is what I remember them being: viewtopic.php?f=65&t=61012&start=15#p663677
I stand corrected. I was overwhelmed by fumes form the MBB blue room :) :) Thanks for the correction.

Looks like 10 MBB coaches were shipped from Middleboro just before Christmas. All are headed to Kinkisharo International in New Jersey for overhaul (according to the N.E. Transit list). Cars are Coaches 514,518,519,525,529,531 and Control Cars 1500,1502,1519 & 1523. Someone said they were on CSX B726-24 out of Middleboro.

I'm guessing they will head west to Albany and then down the river? I don't think via NHV and Hell Gate are even in the cards, right?

Still can't believe the MBTA is overhauling these cars. CTDOT did it as a condition of their lease from the MBTA and the cars are utter shit for 2019. They rattle terribly, have bad insulation, and are in general just bad cars. It's such a joy when I use an Amtrak train on the Hartford Line service instead of one of the CTrail trains because the Amfleets are so much more comfortable: everything from the restrooms to the seats, lighting, noise, and most of all, ride quality, especially with the new wheel profile Amtrak has been rolling out.

FWIW, the MBB T cars are about 5 years younger than Amfleet II cars (and 10 years younger than Amfleet I cars) but I'm guessing commuter use wear and tear is tougher on equipment than long distance/corridor service is.

CDOT is in the process of looking at replacing the MBB coaches as well as Mafersa Cars that operate in Ctrail service.

ConnDOT has to replace them, they’re leased and MassDOT wants them back.

The MBB cars are also not stainless steel, so they’re rusty, and have suffered from decades of lowest-bidder maintenance.

Even after the MBB cars get sent back to MassDot, their days will probably be numbered anyway for operating in the MBTA network. I have ridden inside MBTA cars in MBTA land plenty of times and haven't been much of a fan of that. When the new bilevels enter revenue service on MBTA, hopefully that will improve things, although the dwell times may not be the shortest at stops with low level platforms.

Yes, but passengers won't ride the first cars for another two or three years.
