Some disadvantages of aerial loop cable gondolas (gondola lifts):

1. Lots of people afraid of heights, aggravated by seeing the ground far down below.
2. Constant attention by employees at the platforms to load the gondolas, splitting up families and dispatching the gondolas expeditiously depending on timing to prevent gondolas backing up when entering the station.
3. Having to monitor weight of passengers and baggage going into each gondola.
4. Sweltering inside the gondola during the summer.

There's a difference between looking down from a seat in an airplane--which can be avoided by booking an aisle seat--and standing on an open aerial platform with nothing between you and the ground. An impressive gap to mind.
