The Red Line 01500/01600/01700 series are Westinghouse units with DC cam traction control. Are they WH CAM or E-CAM? The former is the original Westinghouse cam control system dating from late 1950s, while E-Cam is a microprocessor-based electronic upgrade first introduced in 1991 (after demo testing in the late 80s at NYCT on a R36 unit). Obviously the cars when delivered in '69-70 and '88 were of the regular cam type, but did they ever get the digital upgrade to E-Cam? BBD (successor to Westinghouse's Transportation Division in Pittsburgh) offers E-CAM today as "MITRAC E-CAM" and also offers it as an aftermarket upgrade, kit or retrofit for older equipment.
