What are the "rules" for how far along the platforms @ South Station any given train is supposed to pull in?

Some days we pull all the way in to the concourse..other days it seems like we are walking in from Readville! There doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason to it. Some say they aren't supposed to park an engine under the bus terminal, but that happens often enough to disprove that theory. Is there actually some rule on the books about this or is it up to the engineer's discretion?

Just curious..

Tracks 8, 9, and 10 have extra ventilation positioned over those tracks to allow the loco to sit beneath the bus terminal. The other tracks do not (why they don't is beyond me, it's a downright silly arrangement).

Yet when we came in on 10 this morning, we had to walk from the far end of the platform???

Perhaps someone is tired of power washing the diesel soot off the side of the bus terminal?

No, the tracks that don't have the special ventilation (8-10) create excessive diesel fumes within the bus terminal if the loco parks beneath it. Obviously a poor design, all tracks should have the proper ventilation.

As already said, tracks 8-10 are the only tracks where a diesel is "allowed" to be under the bus terminal. As far as anything else goes the platforms have the appropriate car marks where the train is allowed to be spotted. On a side note, nothing tells the engineer where to spot on 8-10 so it is up to his or her discretion on how close to pull the train to the bunter.
