How VRE is preparing for Metro shutdown

Post by davinp » Thu May 16, 2019 12:43 pm

As Metro prepares to close six Blue and Yellow line stations for about three and a half months, Virginia Railway Express is preparing for a big jump in riders who are affected by the Metro shutdown.

The biggest surge in VRE riders is expected at VRE’s Franconia-Springfield station, which is located next to Metro’s Franconia-Springfield station.

Some Metro riders willing to pay more for VRE during the Summer Shutdown

Although he says VRE is prepared for more customers, due to the shutdown, he admits that it is tough to predict the future.

How many riders do you expect to see during that metro shutdown? asked ABC7’s Anna-Lysa Gayle.

“We don’t know,” said Allen. “It will be interesting to see what transpires, we haven’t put any estimates together on that.”

Wouldn't they have the statistics from the previous Safetrack shutdowns?

They would, but they also have limited equipment from what I can see. MARC can shuffle some stuff around (they have some spares) but VRE I think is running rather tight and can't adjust the equipment.

This is a way to accommodate but it'll take paying a lot of companies a lot of money to do it.
"The last and final stop is BALTIMORE PENN STATION." I can has MARC V?
