It's not. MARC wants a GP40 or similar.

MARC runs the diesels on the NEC on a regular basis. In some cases, those diesels rescue Amtrak trains when power dies. Remember the remaining GP40WH-2?

And not drive the DS nuts!
MARC MP36 is good for 90 in the timetable
NJT GP40 is good for 100 in the timetable
NJT ALP46 is good for 100 in the timetable

The GP40WH-2 (MARC 68) is used to rescue trains (including freight), and is regularly stationed in Odenton at the Amtrak MoW yard.

The diesels that are regularly run are GP39H-2's and the MP36PH-3C's. The SC-44's (Chargers) are being tested now -- Trains magazine had them being tested on CSX lines in January and it was reported here of the Amtrak test last month.
