As usual, the WMATA PR machine is hard at work. There was a fire on the tracks at Gallery Place yesterday evening. Pictures everywhere of smoke coming from the tracks filling the station, WMATA personnel lining up with fire extinguishers, etc. First, the PR department called it "delays due to a track problem". Then they announced that the station is closed "due to fire department activity". No WMATA, the station is not closed due to Fire Dept activity. It's closed BECAUSE YOUR SHIT IS ON FIRE.

When something is "closed due to fire department activity", that means something unrelated is closed as result of the fire department's efforts. Such a nearby building on fire but there is a hose stretched across the rails.

OK, rant over.
