When I first started watching this video I was hopping it would show scenes of it going all the way to Baltimore, couple of shots passing familiar locations along MD US-1, making the turn into United Iron & Metal and the roll off of the trailer.

The first few car shipped had the metro M logo painted over, the remainder have had them peeled off.

You will notice the F end of a 7k B car on one of the shop track as the 1k car is being rolled up and loaded on the trailer.

I've never seen a trailer bed where the rear wheels could rotate. Very cool, and obviously necessary in this case.

I have seen several standing on the shoulder of the Baltimore Beltway east of MD I-97 waiting for escorts of the Francis Scott Key Bridge.

Silk Road uses the same trailer type to ship the 7k cars from Lincoln Nebraska. The trucking company shipping the new bart cars also uses trailers with steerable wheels.

Riggers and movers use this sort of equipment all of the time.

The thing I am not sure about is whether there is a human controlling those axles or whether it is all automated based upon the steering of the front wheels.

Don't know, my guess would be controlled by the angle of the trailer position on the fifth wheel.

The number of cars being scrapped has increased 100 percent, 4 cars a week.

I went by United Iron & Metal in Baltimore today and yesterday. I noticed 3 cars in the yard yesterday 1 to the right of 2 sitting one in front of the other. Today I observed 2 car, the car to the right was gone, one of the 2 that were sitting one in front of the other was gone and the third was laying on its side the other was to the left of the car laying on its side. I was only able to see numbers on 2 of cars, 1122 and 1228.

I don't know when the pace was increased as the last time stopped by to look was back in late June.

Someone better at math than myself should be able to calculate the month (if not week) where we're likely to see the last 1k car carted off, no? 16 cars a month, starting with this August for instance, is 192 cars removed by August 2017 (16x12). Factor in what has already been disposed of (20-30 cars?), and we're well into 200's by this time next year. I think it's safe to say December 2017/January 2018 will be the end of the 1k fleet. If the rate of 7000-series delivery stays on track, I can see them pulling 1000-series cars from revenue service even if they cannot dispose of them at the same time.

Now that Metro has 140 new 7000 series in service, the fist 140 1000 series should be retired from service and scrapped.
There is no reason to continue using them when you have new cars

Hey Sand Box John, have you happened to head up to the scrapyard recently? I've lost count of how many 1000-series cars actually still exist
My last count is 246, but that's likely a month or two old by now.
