Steve:

As always a good update each month with new pages directly linked...I will add:

The eleven car Red Stripe Parlor Car fleet (1984-85 cars repainted along with reflectorized red
side stripe) was an interesting part of the LIRR Diesel car fleet.

The picture at the top of the page shows the Greenport trip operated as part of the 1988 NRHS
"Garden State in 1988" Convention (Tri-State Chapter-NRHS) showing 8 of the cars in service.
The date was Thursday July 28, 1988. That trip had to be scheduled on a weekday because the
Parlor Cars would have been needed for service east on the next day (Friday) and weekends
in season. This may have been one of the last true all-Parlor Car trains that the LIRR has run.

The Ronkonkoma-Greenport Scoot would sometimes have two Red Stripe Parlor Cars assigned
off-season instead of two standard blue stripe coaches. The Scoot service began along with the
completion of the Hicksville-Ronkonkoma Electrification (January 18, 1988) when diesel service
west of Ronkonkoma was discontinued. These cars were retired in favor of the C3 fleet (2000?).

The Holbrook (1969) area is very different today-the Coates Avenue crossing now has shopping
centers to the north and the Patchogue-Holbrook Road overpass just east of the picture location.
Holbrook at its closing was down to just two trains on weekdays - AM Peak west, PM Peak east.
