Lots of MOW work on UP/W around Lombard these days (official form B limits are between MP 19.75 and MP 19), as preparations have finally begun for the installation of the new crossovers. New ties, plus other various MOW equipment can be seen along the north side of the ROW, with the work concentrated in approx. a 1/2 mile stretch between Grace St. and the Metra Lombard depot. In fact, it's just west of where the CGW (Chicago Great Western) once crossed the CNW on an elevated ROW, and although the tracks are long gone, parts of the truncated ROW still exist to the immediate east and west at the intersection of St. Charles Road and Grace St. (with the former running parallel to the UP ROW on the south side through the eastern half of Lombard, before jogging to the north side at Grace St.) Getting pictures of the work is a challenge, however, due to the relative inaccessibility of the work area, and although there are commuter parking lots on both sides of the ROW, there are only limited vantage points available, and you really can't see that much. By far, the best views of the work can be seen from the front cab car window of any Metra train through the area.
Also, just to recap, the new intermediate signals at MP28.5 (approach for the absolutes at Turner, CPY029), plus those at 27.5, 26.5, & 25.5 were activated over the summer. The other new signals at MP23.25, 22.25 (right atop Park Blvd. in Glen Ellyn), 21.25, and 20.5 (just west of Finley Rd. in Lombard) are still dark with hoods on the masts, awaiting completion of the new interlocking...
