Announcement about the under-construction Blue Line
RT has activated high voltage wires above the light rail tracks along the Blue Line to Cosumnes River College (CRC) light rail extension currently under construction. Stay clear of this high voltage area and the overhead wires, which are extremely dangerous!

RT will be operating light rail test trains between the Meadowview Station and the new Cosumnes River College Station starting later this month. Testing may take place at any time during the day or night, and will continue until the opening of the Blue Line to CRC light rail service in September 2015.
That announcement was undated and apparently old.

Home - Riverfront Streetcar Project Its route:

From a loop around the Sacramento Convention Center, the route goes west-north-west to the Sacramento Valley Amtrak station, then southward to the Tower Bridge across the Sacramento River, and then across that bridge to Raley Field in West Sacramento. It then branches into two routes, one to West Sacramento City Hall, and the other to Riverfront and Garden St.

However, Sacramento streetcar rail line price tag soars, project in jeopardy | The Sacramento Bee Its originally-expected cost was $108 million, but three bids recently received are for $184 m, $190 m, and $206 m. The streetcar joint powers board is now discussing whether there is a path forward for the project. Will they have to scale it back in some way?

Sacramento RT in negotiations with Siemens Mobility for up to 76 light-rail cars: SacBee.com
Sacramento Regional Transit, the capital region’s leading public transportation provider, is in negotiations with Germany-based transit conglomerate Siemens Mobility to acquire up to 76 light-rail cars.

RT spokeswoman Jessica Gonzalez said the company is looking to initially purchase 23 light-rail cars through a joint procurement with San Diego’s Metropolitan Transit System, with the first four cars being delivered potentially as soon as next spring.

Additional cars would be delivered in 2022, Gonzalez said.

The purchase is part of RT’s light-rail modernization program, which involves acquiring new low-floor light-rail vehicles, converting stations to accommodate them and installing a passing track to allow for faster Folsom service.
