CRRC, the Chinese owned company which has recently won contracts for subway cars in Boston and Chicago will likely build new subway cars for Los Angeles. The contract is not yet final due to protests from other companies. But, if finalized, it will be:
- 64 car base order (replaces the original 30 Breda cars and expansion purposes)
- Potential options for additional fleet expansion

Most of the assembly will take place in Springfield, MA at the new plant that CRRC is building for the Boston project. Carshells will be manufactured in China and shipped to Massachusetts. Some assembly and manufacturing for selected components will take place in Los Angeles.
