As you know three LWT-12 were produced by EMD. One was for the Rock Island Talgo train "Jet Rocket" and the other two were for EMD's Aero Train Demo. Now in looking at Andre's list of EMD serial number, we see that the Rock Island unit was serial 20826 with a date of 1/56. The EMD Aero Train was 21463-21464 and 10/58 and 9/58.

My question is this correct that the Jet Rocket came first, two years before the Aero Train?

I have to reseach this a bit further. I don't have any Rock Island book to look at the service history of these three trains. I have to check my H.L. Hamilton collection (in my basement) for the article in Popular Science for the date.

Any comments on "Who came first"?

After checking the GM Scrapbook, the single locomotive for the Jet Rocket (with the Blomberg-designed truck) did leave LaGrange before the two AeroTrains (with Flexicoil trucks) did.

I wonder what the CRIP specs spelled out and how did EMD reply with the LWT-12?
