What is the large protrusion just behind the cab on the left side of EMD locomotives? On older models, it is curved at the top, newer ones are more square and protrude less. (It has something to do with the engine, beacause a DD40 has two :-D ) I'm sure someone out there knows what I'm talking about and can help me!

Thanks in advance! :-D

That's the equipment blower duct. Right behind it is a blower, driven off of the diesel engine, that sends filtered air through the duct that goes under the walkway. This cools the traction motors on both trucks.
