Hmmm... EMD and GE both entered into consortial arrangements with Chinese companies to build 6,000 hp diesels a few years ago. Not too many weeks back there was an announcement that GE was interested in setting up production of electric locomotives in India, and now it is announced that EMD is investing in the Indian diesel locomotive business. Is there a pattern here?
(Thanks very much for posting the link: I wouldn't have seen this announcement otherwise!)

Yes. It's that India and China are huge markets for railroad equipment and US manufacturers have a good opportunity to grow their marketshare there.
I wouldn't read this as a sign the GE or Caterpillar(EMD's new owner) are going to be bought by Chinese or Indian interests (at least not in the near future) or, for that matter, merge..

EMD is developing a prototype based on SD80MAC for DLW and is expected to be delivered late in 4Q2011.

According to EMD, this loco can be fitted with 16-265H when DLW is ready.

This loco has EMD model A3432 traction motors at 645 KW and one IGBT inverter bank per TM.

ALCo251 based loco production is expected to end at DLW in 2012. However, at least one or more workshops will receive kits to assemble ALCo251 based locos from DLW.

In addition, Diesel Modernization Works (DMW) will rebuild older ALCo locos with 3,100 HP 16-251 power plant and modern slip control.

It will be another two decades before supply of ALCo 251 based locos dries out.

They have introduced EMD style DB grids and in the space below installed APU to help AESS.
