Mr. Preston Cook will be presenting his program Selling the Diesel at the June 19th meeting of the Amherst (MA) Railway Society. While not exclusively EMD it will show how EMD became the predominant force in the early days of dieseldom. The program is free and open to the public. http://www.amherstrail.org/meeting2007.06.html

Thanks for mentioning the program, just three days away now.

This is the last one for a while, looking forward to a quiet summer.

Once again Mr. Cook presented another insightful chapter of our railroad history. Whist many similar productions are exercises in nostalgic entertainment Mr. Cook continues to blend this window to the past with the genuine commentary of an insider. Many if not most of those reading and commenting to this board were born after the age of steam. Listening and reveling in the stories of our elders we captured in our mind's eye a lost era. Through the efforts of museums and historic groups some of these great iron horses have returned to steam to give us a glimpse of their majesty. Lost in all this romance and nostalgia is one burning question; how was the steam locomotive usurped from its vaunted throne by the diesel? It is through the efforts of those such as Mr. Cook who fill in these missing pieces. Thank you for your presentation and we look forward to your next endeavor.

Thank you for your kind comments. I understand that you made another long trip to attend this meeting, your interest in these programs is very much appreciated. I am working on several more presentation projects, as I introduce them there are plans to convert some of the older programs into magazine articles.
