EMD F Series Fuel Consumption Numbers (GPH)

Post by Fan Railer »

Anyone have these? Specifically for the F7 and FL9?

both should be same as both have same EMD 567 engine in it .
a single FL-9 with HEP running on shuttle used about 450 to 475 gallon per day powering 3 cars.

engine use should be same as GP-9 http://www.horizonrail.com/wp/fuel-consumption-chart/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
If Conductors are in charge, why are they promoted to be Engineer???

Here is another page with locomotive fuel consumption figures:

http://www.alkrug.vcn.com/rrfacts/fueluse.htm" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

It shows the 9 series using slightly more fuel than the 7 series, which makes sense because of the slight increase in horsepower. But what's also interesting is that it shows the 9 series using less fuel in the first two throttle notches. The increase starts slightly at N3 and then increases with each additional notch. In terms of horsepower per gallon, however, they are virtually identical.

Even among the FL9 fleet fuel usage would be different. The first order have the 1750hp 567C, while the second have the 1800hp 567D1. This is if we are talking about factory stock. Who knows what was done in the various rebuilds, such as 645 pistons and liners, different injectors, or different governor settings.

for last few years all Fl-9's had engine ratings of 2000 hp because of 645 power assemblies, but electrical capabilities remained at 1800 hp max.

The fuel consumption numbers in the attachment applied to the Henschel-EMD AA16 model supplied to Egyptian Railways in 1960. These had the 16-567C engine set to 1950 hp gross.

I imagine that they are reasonably representative of other models powered by the 16-567C engine.
