I got interested in the GE traction motors used on the Alco and FM competitors of the EMD E-series locomotives: see strings on the Alco and FM forums. EMD used GE electrical equipment on various of its early locomotives (I think they started using their own traction motors with the E-3 series, but that's a vague recollection). Does anyone here know what model or models of GE traction motors were used on early E-units (and other early EMDs, such as the 511-512 passenger prototype boxcabs)? Right now I'd ***GUESS*** 730, since this was the model used on non-dual-service Alco Dl-109, but there are several other possibilities, and different motors may have been used on different units.

Allen, this information was usually given in the specification table in the first few pages of the locomotive maintenance (not operating) manual. Unfortunately the maintenance manuals for the early Winton engined EMC locomotives (most of which are in the 1 to 150 bulletin number range) are very few and far between nowadays, so hopefully some of the readers of these postings can help to provide information.

I can fill in one item of information. The Rock Island TA units had GE model 716 traction motors.

Thanks, RAS!
An old "Extra 2200 South" Union Pacific roster (published in the 1970s) said that M-10000 had GE 716 motors, but didn't give motor data for U.P.'s later Winton-EMDs.
