Scrapping EMD SD40-2 Locomotives

Not many railfans enjoy viewing the demise of a classic locomotive including me. But your pictures are interesting to view. Are any parts recovered and put back into service? It appears everything down to the trucks are cut up and headed to the melter. Thanks.

@ Piston (don't take this the wrong way) = picture your favorite car or a car you really like, now picture your guys cuttin it up.....................that's pretty much the feelin. I will say though you did document this well, I'm surprised they didn't remove the ditch lights, couplers or even removin the trucks and puttin shop trucks on that loco. Considerin HLCX leases loco's they should think before they chop.

The supply of SD-40-2's far exceeds demand for same in the second hand market. No surprise that some are being cut.

I would assume that the 645s, traction motors, and assorted other 40-series parts are being salvaged...? There's still a pretty good market for those parts.
