VIA cancels most of its trains across Canada following CN notice

Following a notice from the infrastructure owner, CN Rail, that they are no longer in a position to fulfill their obligations under the Train Service Agreement between VIA Rail and CN Rail, VIA Rail has no other option but to cancel all of its services on the network with the exception of Sudbury-White River (CP Rail) and Churchill-The Pas (Hudson Bay Railway), until further notice.

Did CN basicly "Lockout" VIA Rail from running service on the corridors? Toronto-Montreal, Toronto-Windsor,and Toronto-Ottawa?
This will Hurt VIA big time,Recovery may not be possible the longer the blockades last.

This is not just about First Nation peoples trying to protect their land. Quite the opposite. All 22 of the First Nation tribes whose lands are actually impacted by the pipeline have signed off on the pipeline. Those tribes will receive funding for job training, education, community development, and elder care.

The protesters are largely backed by multinational environmental groups.

I don’t know the answer here, but the situation is not as simple as people are suggesting.

Already happened in Vancouver.

In a tweet, Amtrak said it had cancelled train 516 to Vancouver. The train returned to Bellingham where passengers were loaded onto busses to complete the journey
...
An evening southbound train on the same route was also cancelled.

There is some restoration of VIA trains on Thursday: the Québec-Ottawa trains and the Southwestern Ontario trains. It wasn't clear why CN forced VIA to discontinue those lines. Freight service continued.

Why has Ottawa allowed this mess to continue?

All the rail blockades have been taken down and most trains are running again. The exception is the Jasper / Prince Rupert (fka The Skeena) route.
