Recently I saw a picture of the Union Pacific depot that was built in 1940 in downtown Las Vegas.

Does anyone have information about the present condition of the building, if it still exists?

The station has been gone for a long time. It was torn down and the former Union Plaza, not the Plaza, was built in its place.. The back of the hotel and casino once had a small station area.

When I worked for UP in the Vegas area in the early 1980s, the railroad still owned the hotel and workers had priority for rooms. It was fun to come in, filthy from work in the desert, and have keys thrown at us while folks in suits stood in line.

I'm sorry, I can't give you off the top of my head the exact year the station was torn down, but a search on the Union Plaza should get you the information.

Sorry, for some reason some of the small W letters are coming out as a t on this keyboard.
I meant "noW the Plaza" instead of "not the plaza".

Thanks for the information!

I believe Amtrak used the Union Plaza station during most or all of the time it served Las Vegas.
