I will be in Salt Lake City soon. West of Salt Lake City are two routes, the SP line across the Salt Lake causeway and the I guess its ex-WP line around the southern end of the lake. Which line is busier? And what would be a average train count on each? Do they do anything like directional running? Which line has better access?

I have thought about heading west into Nevada to the point they join. What is that location called?

Both UP's Lakeside sub(from Odgen)and the Shafter Sub(from Salt lake City via Wendover) meet at Alazon (CP) RV604
about 4 miles west of Wells Nv ,then it's double track to Elko then directional running(as double track)west to Weso,
5 miles east of Winnemucca.
Not sure of current traffic level on the route except for Amtrak's #5 + #6 the CZ.
