Hey guys, I'm planning to catch SU99 next week and wanted to make sure I didn't get skunked. Is it pretty much a guarantee that they'll run on a Friday evening?

SU-99 came through Passaic Junction in Saddlebrook, NJ at about 6:25 PM this past Friday (10/12/2012). NYS&W SD40-2 #3022 was leading with 3 NYS&W SD60's #3810, 3806, & 3802 respectively. The train was pulling about 60 to 70 freight cars. Looks like this train is coming through kinda late lately.

A bit later CSX #2732 arrived at the yard to do yard work.

The local came through with NYS&W #3012 (I believe that was the number) leading about 7 or 8 freight cars at around 7:35 PM.

A WS crew had the 99 built and backed into an MC track by about 4PM. Think the crew signed up at 5:30, had the train moving west by 5:38. I thought it pretty much the norm for them to leave anywhere between 3 and 6PM.

When the NYS&W heard about about Hurricane Sandy, they ran the SU-100 & SU-99 a day early. They ran them on Sunday 10-28-12. I got the chance to chase both of them and hear is my video!

Then after Hurricane Sandy they couldn't run any SU-100's or SU-99's because MTA closed their line and wouldn't let the train through, so I caught 1 of the few trains that the railroad ran. Here is an NYS&W Local and you get to see them stop and flag a crossing! Enjoy

Driving on County Rt 1a Warwick Wed 10 pm to find SU99(?) blocking the Pelton crossing. Headed north, crossed Rt 94 as 99 was underway with 3810, 3808, 3806, 3802 clearing the crossing.

I would love to catch a train on the old L&HR north of Sparta. Besides these two trains , are ther any others that use the L&H between Sparta and Warwick ? Any in daylight ? I'd have to drive 90 minutes and wouldn't want to waste gas.

The very short answer to your question is no.

Yeah, I figured. I gave up on that years ago. Only "safe bet" I had was when they ran a special 142 trip in 2001 and it rained so hard I said"Nope" and went home. Haven't been up that way since 2010 on way to Orange County Fairgrounds.

The SU99 (Little Ferry to Binghamton) typically leaves late afternoon (5:00 PM or so, others can be more precise) MWF, so the only hope of daylight north of Sparta would be in summer. And even then it might be tight. The SU100 the other way comes though in early AM (MWF early AM) usually before dawn, even in summer. JS

with the sd60's coming the 100's have been making good time to nj, usually around 4am. The 99's were leaving in the summer around 3pm and were getting to Campbell Hall,NY on the NJT Main in daylight. A bunch of videos on youtube from this past summer.

19:30 Just heard a train from my living room clear as day thanks to the fresh blanket of snowfall. Rarely do as I'm over 7 miles from the nearest crossing. My guess it's SU99 on the Vernon/ Warwick border.

Heard 99 chatter as I drove through Newfoundland NJ tonight around 5:30pm. "Having issues with another engine, now 3804 is showing ground fault"

Dispatcher relayed to check the MU cables, that's all I heard. Hope things worked out
