I was following a topic over on the Conrail board about the first Conrail repaint. What was the first ex-Conrail locomotive painted into NS colors? Google turned up no results.

That would be NS 8334(xCR 6083) painted on June 23, 1999.
Purchase any of the Wither's NS Roster Books that seem to come out every 2 years. The paint dates are next to the unit numbers.

That is what I would love to know too!! I think someone said it wasn't actually done until 1983, but I don't know the exact date..

Wasn't there a repaint that came out on or around D day? I thought a GP38-2 was the 1st or maybe the 1st 4 axle (I believe it was 5392?) I remember reading something in Extra2200 South about that as I kept the rosters of both NS and CSX ex-CR renumbering sections.

The Paint Shop column in the October 1984 issue of Model Railroader had an article on detailing and painting a Norfolk Southern GP38AC. According to the article among the first, if not the first repainted units, were GP38ACs 4129-4132 which were released from the Roanoke paint shop in October of 1983.
