She sits at the Virginia Museum Of Transportation.

Mounted yes, stuffed no. All her tubes were removed and put into protection if NS ever wanted to use her again (which is in the contract they have with the Virginia Museum of Trans. they can just take her back). Don't think we saw the last of #611 pulling trains. We'll all just have to wait and see.

The Roanoke Times recently ran a story on this very subject. Among the highlights:
"It's certainly available," said transportation museum Director Bev Fitzpatrick ... Fitzpatrick said the 611 remains "pretty much intact."
The story also provides what appears to be accurate information on the reasons for the NS 611 and 1218 unfortunate retirements .. good starter reading, it would seem, for anyone not familiar with events of the 1990's.

Apparently NS is now willing to let the TVRM run STEAM excursions on their rails.. this could be a sign that they will let other orginizations do the same..
