Is the photographer absolutely sure this is 507?

I have talked with the photographer, and yes he is 100% sure it is the 507. He said that it received PTC antenna’s as well.

Yes, it's the 507, and yes it has been repainted into GRS paint. As for why, who knows, especially since there are still a bunch running around in that scheme.

Wonders never cease ... Perhaps NS will "add" it to their heritage fleet someday. Can't imagine a brand new engine with that paint on it.

Heritage paint schemes can evoke the warm-and-fuzzies and can also honor tradition.
What warm-and-fuzzies and what honorable tradition/s can a Guilford paint scheme ever possibly evoke?

None. But the same is true of Penn Central's paint scheme, and NS painted a heritage locomotive in that scheme, so I guess anything's possible. :wink:

I may be in the minority but I never minded GRS paint, especially GTI Phase I w/pilot stripes. 14 years later it's still difficult to say "Pan Am Railways". I remember when we got the Division Notice on the name change and wondering if it was a joke?

The initial version looked sharp and was actually unique in terms of not resembling anything else out there at the time.

Maybe the sale is imminent. The sale is subject to STB and could drag on for many months and conditions could be applied. Maybe Mellon wants to keep the PanAm name and cash out the railroad right now this year, so the railroad goes into a trust. They need a placeholder name and a display unit - for the press conference & photos. So they grabbed a unit - any unit - that was handy & painted it. The leasing company doesn't want a unit that is in the leasing company's paint scheme to be repainted, any others they don't care.
