The SD40s were traded in toward the 370-series high-nose GP40s.

Oh, and the reason they got rid of them is because they decided they wanted to make the GP40 the "standard locomotive" for the railroad. They did keep a few of their older SD units mainly for hump duty, but basically they wanted to standardize on the GP40 because it can "go anywhere and do anything."

Hello All,
Wasn't that also the guy who said when they bought the 500 series GP-40-2ls that they were going to get rid of all the 'old junk'? Thats funny, because I saw the GP-7s #12 and 15 the other day....

What's wrong with that? BN, CP, and CN are all profitable class 1 carriers. They all have Geeps. I tink that they were talking about road power. They have had rising traffic levels lately too this may have postponed retirements.
