Dover police notified the public that traffic detours were setup downtown to get drivers around the Central Ave and Chestnut St. blockage by the train. No info on the cause. Pan Am stated train would be cleared by approximately 8:00pm

According to Foster's Daily Democrat,
Foster's Daily Democrat wrote:Pan Am crews determined the emergency was triggered when two boxcars became uncoupled because a pin was missing from one of the knuckles that connected them. The subsequent repairs delayed four Amtrak commuter trains for various lengths of times over the next three hours, according to Scarano and Amtrak.
