Yesterday my family took a trip along District 3. We started from Saratoga Springs, and headed east. We left at about 8:30am, and didn’t hear anything. We first stopped at East Portal. From there, we saw a westbound auto train tied down at Buckland.

At East Deerfield, there was a large MOW gang working on a switch, which was in front of the tower. After running down the dirt road, we saw the hump switcher working. It had a couple of the new 6 axle GEs. What happened to the leased slug set?

Later at Gardner, POED had a wide nose ex CSX, and a conventional cab. They cut off and doubled to a dead train, which was in the yard. This job had a couple of PAR GEs, and two CEFX SD40-2s. Our last stop was Ayer. 23K was doubling out on the Camp Track. We heard the conductor tell the engineer to do his continuity test, and that he was on his way to the head end, which was right to the jack, and the tail end was still around the wye. We went to the head end, and watched them pull out.

After a passenger, which was at the station, we stopped by the Willows. There was another pair of GEs with some covered hoppers. There was no more signs of life, except possibly a switcher down in the Hill Yard, so we called it a day.
