Hello all;
Lately I've been trying to keep track of the fate of Conrail's dash 7 fleet... kind of sad so far.

Here's what I've got so far, which isn't much:

B23-7 - numerous units on various shortline / industrial / regional lines. I'm not sure of exactly how many.

B36-7 - some units were rebuilt and sold to Brazil (as narrow guage six axle units???); some cleaned off down to the frame for Railpower gensets. Any left intact?

C30-7 - At least two made it to the Ohio Central, then sold to Larry's Truck Electric by G&W. Were they bought for lease / resale or scrap? Do any others survive?

C30-7A - 19 were rebuilt and sold to Estonia. 12 were parted / scrapped out with the internals going for an Australian loco rebuild program... were all the rest scrapped, too?

C36-7 - At least two made it to the Ohio Central, then sold to LTE by G&W. At least one of the two has definately been scrapped already. Do any others survive? I heard that some were sold to one of the leasing companies - are they still out there?

Thanks for any and all help!!!

wow, that is sad!
the C30-7's and C30-7A's are among my favorite Conrail engines..
I hope some more survivors are out there!

Here are three surviving (and operating) Conrail B23-7's,
with the Finger Lakes Railway of central NY state..its not much, but its a start!

Conrail Historical Society maintains a list of survivors:

http://thecrhs.org/ConrailSurvivors/Locomotives/GE

although it doesnt appear to be a current, or updated, list..
I cant really tell how its organized..
it appears to be a collection of posts..when someone spots a survivor, they place a photo on the page..
but there is no "master list" of known survivors, who owns them, location, status, etc..
still, its a good place to start..

Its good to know some of the units are definately still out there running in Conrail colors... unfortunately in Brazil! I never imagined the B36-7s I saw pulling van trains in the '90s would become the BB36-7s in those pictures... still in their Conrail paint no less!
Thanks for the info!

Pretty sure the 6607 was retired after blowing up in the mid-1990s, but I recall conflicting reports on the disposition. I know I shot it coming past me with a ton of oily haze coming out the stack (not the normal GE black smoke) one summer shortly before the reports of it's demise appeared in Railpace.

None of the 10 original Conrail C30-7's (6600-6609) survived till the splitup of the railroad, all were retired by that time. As such, none of them made it to Ohio Central. The pair of OC C30-7's you reference were actually C36-7's, which were derated to 3000hp and reclassed C30-7 by CSX during the last year or two of service on that railroad. OC had 4 of these units, acquired via CSX.

1 or 2 of the original 10 C30-7's ended up as rebuild fodder and were rebuilt as model C36-8M for BC Rail. Conrail #6609 was one of the units, not sure of ther other. These units have been retired by CN (who tookover BC Rail) and sold to one of the railroads in Brazil.

A small number of Ex Conrail C30-7A's, and C36-7's were sold to the Government owned Railroads in Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania and were converted over to 5 foot guage.

One B36-7 (ex 5001, CSX 5783) became a parts unit that went to TTI in Paris KY.
