I never thought any of them were all that dynamic. Of course, when I started running them they were about 7 or 8 years in service.

Sorry, Terry. I really have no idea of the answer to your real question. Completely disregard my wiseacre response above.

My guess is, that if the GP35's were at all a decent locomotive, they may be used somewhere on short lines or regionals that buy off older power from Class 1's. I'm not sure where you live, but if you can get your hands on magazines like Railpace or CTC Board, they have "Locomotive Notes" stating who buys 2nd hand power or what power is being scrapped, etc.

Maybe this is better on Penn-Central but it was here so here I go,
I ran the GP-35's much on the River Line between New Jersey and Selkirk
and found that if I had a solid consist of just GP-35's, they ran very good
and did a good job but if I had an assortment of different locomotives, the
GP-35('s) would not generally run good at all. Trainsition problems and
wheel slip (or false wheel slip) problems and frequently dropping their
load among other things. Had them once or twice on a way freight and
they were not too bad, same on a work train. Unfortunately, the railroad
did not see fit to run them by themselves, rather have them out there
where at least on paper, they were doing their job. Most of the time, they
were just wasting fuel.

The topic should have said "How many non-dynamic brake GP35's are left?" Of course I am not the person that changed the topic's name under my nose.

There are five former Conrail GP35's in work train service on Metro-North.
They are former PRR and RDG units, rebuilt at Altoona for MN in 1993.

GP35R 102 EMD 2000 hp ex-CR 2271, ex-PRR
GP35R 103 EMD 2000 hp ex-CR 2251, ex-PRR
GP35R 104 EMD 2000 hp ex-CR 2350, ex-PRR
GP35R 105 EMD 2000 hp ex-CR 3637, ex-RDG

Otto, is correct on the gp35's, when they were rebuilt by conrail the bodies were taken from retired nyc units which did not have dynamic brakes, except one.
