FYI:
In the July issue of Trains magazine there are 2 good articles on
Conrail. The first is a story on the operating success of Conrail's
Shared Asset Areas. As disappointed as I was to see Conrail split up,
it's actually a very good read. There's even a nice pic of ME34 on
the NEC at Metuchen in Sept. 2003. The other story is an adaption
from the book "THE MEN WHO LOVED TRAINS" by Rush Loving Jr. which
comes out this month. It's called "THE PRIZE" and it's all about the
inner workings of the battle for Conrail between NS and CSX. It's
a great story and I'll probably go out and get the book. There are 2
pics of Conrail trains running through Jersey City( 1 is on the cover).
On another note:
There is also a good article on rail customers complaints about the
unfairness of rail service do to the fact that most of them are
served by a single carrier. They are calling themselves "captive
shippers" and are pressing the House of Reps. to pass legislation to
get better deals. Carriers fear it will bring back rail regulation.
Another must read.
