RailAmerica is announcing today that they have sold back all their properties in Alberta to Canadian National. This means that CN is once again operator of most of the Northern Alberta Railways, other than the sections under Savage Alberta (formerly Alberta RailNet) and Athabaska Northern. I suppose they'll transfer the Central Western's Stettler trackage back to CP or to a shortline, though so far they have kept the BL&E. The article from CN is the better one I believe, but it worthwhile to read both. It does include a map.

It's interesting that CN wanted these lines back after spinning them off not that long ago. I suspect they aren't all that interested in the Central Western Railway lines and only took them as part of the package.

You mean like how the CN got the B&LE and the US Steel Great Lakes fleet just because it wanted 17 miles of DM&IR track?
