About a week ago, a tragic incident occurred at the CN/WC/SOO bridge X-ing the Des Plaines River near Melrose Park, IL. Several kids were jumping off that bridge into the River. Unfortunately one drowned.

It would appear this bridge does not see much in the way of traffic anymore. Likely, the CN has other routes with which either their Local traffic is handled around Chicago as well as that being interchanged to other roads.

It further appears to attract other varietals of daredevils:

Question: how active is this line nowadays. Someone has now died owing to their own negligence, but I think we all know just how much CN can "wash their hands" of this matter.

It is not active at all. This part of the Waukesha Sub has been out of service since 2014.

An abandoned railroad bridge is no more or less dangerous than an abandoned station or coaling tower.
