IC sold off the CC&P, when they were doing their massive downsizing in the 1980s. In the mid 1990s, they bought it back. What was the motive? By that time, UP was taking over the Northwestern. There was little hope of getting a slice of the pie on overhead traffic at Omaha/ Council Bluffs. Was there much online traffic?

On a side note, how was BN finally able to get control over the line through E. Dubuque?

There are six Shuttle Grain Elevators west of Iowa Falls plus at least two large Ethanol Distilleries that I know of.

I vaguely remember reading something about IC being one of the bidders for the C&NW when it was up for sale in the 90s even though UP owned a good chunk of its' stock by then.

So maybe it was a response to not getting the North Western.
