Anyone know what will happen to these dash 8s on the dead line in Galveston? Or maybe why class Is are sidelining these locomotives and other GE and EMD locomotives built in the late 90s early 2000s such as the earlier SD70s?
These former warbonnets almost look white.

Older locomotives can be as much as 25% less fuel efficient as newer ones, which is why so many have gone into storage as traffic drops off and/or PSR methodologies take hold (e.g. running fewer trains on a schedule but with more cars per movement).

Where are they going?... nowhere fast. Some might wind up being rebuilt and/or exported to countries with less stringent emissions.

The thinking from some retired employees the units are scrap material,there're at least 3 texas scrap yards loaded with dead GE's now.
The FDL Prime mover has become obsolete,no longer factory supported
Amtrak should see if some of parts can be used to keep the the P40/42's up and running.
