Been spending a few days shooting photos on the Transcon in Kansas. Noted a lot of left hand running. Our theory is that this due to the KCIMF, and reducing conflicts with trains entering or leaving the facility. If this so, how far does it extend in either direction?

The entire Transconn is under CTC control, both tracks are good in both directions, could be dispatcher preference.

It’s also true on the historic CB&Q coming out of Murray Yard, NKC, MO. Trains tend to take siding engineer on the interior.

When the train has an independent run through a siding, it tends to hold the main track.
