Quick Question:

I've taken the Amtrak a number of times between Seattle and Portland on the BNSF track. Not too far north from the Kelso/Longview Amtrak station there's a wooden flyover that branches off the main over the Cowlitz River. Where does this lead? Is it still in use?

It's part of the old Columbia and Cowlitz, and I'm pretty sure it is still in service, but not busy. It goes from Longview and a BNSF connection up into the woods sort of near Mt. St. Helens.

The line, now known as the Patriot Woods Railway, is abandoned per STB filing AB 1243X. The line has been severed in several places but has not been removed as of yet. The last use of the line was hauling leachete from a landfill, it is now transported by a pipeline.
