I think it was 273, but Mr. Tancula may correct me on that.

KSmitty you are probably correct. I cannot confirm it as 275 as those notes are in the Chicago office and I am in the Poland office.

In case anyone's interested, you can still view the complete auction list online, and it shows what the final bids for each locomotive were:

From what I heard, SLC and CDAC F40 did no sell as they had a reserve price on them that was not reached.

Hmmm. The page on the auction site said the minimum bids on those units were $10,000 (same as all the others).

Minimum bid and reserve price are quite different things my friend ;)

Right you are. I misread your post. My bad!

Found a photo on RailroadPicturesArchives.Net, which shows the 273 as the test bed.

Also, CN 5389 listed as scrapped at Derby was actually the 5387, not the 5389.

Any updates on who got what besides the M&E sale?

Dave
Rumor hazzit 8569/92 (both the MM&A painted units) plus 3 unnamed C30's were sold to a scrap outfit in the Bangor area.

One thing for sure, we'll know a lot more in about 45 days (buyers were afforded a 60 day window to SOS or ship 'em out.). Anything seen leaving will be billed somewhere, with some luck, someone will run a trace and see where its going. Anything not seen leaving, well, you know...

That wouldn't have been One Steel Recycling who bought them by any chance, would it? How about that if it was!? Go to meet your maker right along your old mainline!

I visited Derby today, and almost all units were still in the auction deadline. One of the ex-BAR GP7's had "MERR" sprayed on the side of the cab.
I saw none removed, nor any being cut up. I contacted the Bangor region scrapper, and very little has been done to any of their locomotives.
My guess is a sorting process will have to be done to get lines of units scheduled for the correct buyer.
