Also interesting in their absence are the four ex-CN SD40-2s (5364, 5374, 5382, 5389). Not sure how many - if any - are operable.

And what about the remote control cabooses (VB1-4). Has anyone seen them since the CMQ takeover?

Boy, I wish Rail World owned the F3, but as I understand it, it went to CMQ and is still stashed under cover in the paint shop at Derby.

As for the ex CN SD20-2 units, all five were always owned by Rail World Locomotive Leasing (RWLL) and were never sold to MMA. The disposition and status of the units are as follows:

-MMA/BCOL/CN 758-Sold by RWLL to Wheeling & Lake Erie

-CN 5364-Still owned by RWLL, no traction motors, awaiting inspection by potential purchaser

-CN 5374-Still owned by RWLL, no traction motors, awaiting inspection by potential purchaser

-CN 5382-Scrapped prior to MMA bankruptcy at Derby Shops-components used by RWLL as follows: Cooling system, AR10, aux gen and accessory rack used to construct M62M locomotive in Ukraine: Traction motors sent to Rail Polska in Poland for use under one of their M62M units

-CN 5389-Scrapped prior to MMA bankruptcy at Derby Shops-components used by RWLL as follows: Cooling system, AR10, aux gen and accessory rack used to construct M62M locomotive in Ukraine: Traction motors sent to Rail Polska in Poland for use under one of their M62M units

Maybe PAR would be interested in the two SD40-2 locos, if the price was right,
(scrap value or so). They would only have to tow them about 50 miles from
NMJ to Waterville.

Quebec provincial police say they've taken steps to prevent the auction of the locomotive that played a key role in the deadly Lac-Megantic rail disaster.

A spokeswoman for the force said Wednesday that investigators initiated measures to block a U.S. auction house from selling the locomotive until the end of legal proceedings.

A spokesman for MMA's secured creditor, the Maine-based Bangor Savings Bank, told The Canadian Press earlier this week that it "double" and "triple" checked to make sure authorities no longer needed the unit and that they had permission to auction it off. He was not immediately available for comment after the Quebec police announcement.

MMA 5017, the lead engine on the train that smashed into Lac-Megantic, is scheduled to go to auction Aug. 5., a month after the disaster-scarred town marked the first year of the catastrophe.

Wow... That is a very tired fleet. I've photographed of all of the C30-7's and B39-8E's in service - but of the 20 such units in the auction list, 8 (including 5017) either need significant repairs or are fit for scrap. Ironically, many of the "new" CITX SD40-2's are 10+ years older than the oldest GE's (albeit rebuilt - and likely better maintained).

From the Bangor Daily News:

The locomotive that led the Maine train that killed 47 people in Quebec last year will likely be withheld from an auction next month at the request of Quebec provincial police, officials said Thursday.

Sûreté du Québec officials must preserve the locomotive for pending court actions, said attorney Robert Keach, trustee for the estate of bankrupt Montreal, Maine and Atlantic Railway of Hermon. The estate and others involved will honor the request if certain conditions are met, he said.

“Their point is that it might be evidence,” Keach said Thursday. “There is also a duty to provide evidence to defense counsel in the law on both sides [in Canada and the U.S.]. I think they are concerned about that as well.”
