Take note, on this next clip @ 2:45 in time, you'll notice NBSR #6318 heading southbound (tt west) crossing Church st. in Brownville, not Brownville Junction which is 2 miles north from there. Most of NBSR's traffic coming southbound from Millinocket and points north will be dropped at the Brownville's wood loading facility yard just south of Church st. instead of pushing or dragging their train back to the junction as you can see in the video. Light power returned on the x-B&A to the county. Through CMQ trains from BJ will pick-up these cars from NBSR that are bound for Northern Maine Junction.

A couple questions arise:
1. Does NBM assign a switcher at Brownville Jct that builds trains for MNR and NBSR traffic?
2. Are NBSR and MNR crews pre blocking trains prior to interchange at Brownville Jct due to congestion?
3. Does CMQ assign a switcher to Brownville Jct or is it the road power that switches Brownville Jct?

Got to spend this past weekend along the CM&Q.
Friday and Saturday CM&Q roundtripped NMJ-Brownville and back. Saturday they sent a train north to Millinocket.
Quite fun to listen to GP38-s chug up here in turbo territory.

1. Nope. Road crews switch Brownville.
2. Yep. I'll relay what I've been told. MNR blocks the trains for south, east and west. They make their drops for west and south in the Brownville yard, make pickups in Brownville Junction and run back to the cutoff to pick up the east section of their train from Oakfield. Westbounds out of Saint John do the same thing, in reverse.
3. I believe they normally do not, but may call an extra crew as needed.

Any idea if the CMQ fields a switcher/local in the Derby/Brownville Junction area? Or do road freights (NMJ-BJ or BJ-Milli) do all the switching in those locations? Thanks for any help and thanks for your reports!

In this recent video taken by MaineRailFanner of CMQ and Maine Northern railroads, you'll see CMQ heading north from NMJ to Brownville Junction, and with Maine Northern arriving at the Brownville Village yard located just below Church st. for a drop off of lumber loads from wood mills in northern Maine for interchange with CMQ.
Note, several of the crossings on CMQ's busy main line are only protected by cross bucks and trains speeds are relatively decent for that area. Also, check-out the derailed boxcar in the Brownville log loading yard. Enjoy!

Last Friday CMQ hauled their first doublestacks, a three pack. They have previously done singles before as tests, so hopefully we'll continue to see this traffic grow.

Im still a little amazed that between all the great coverage of the CMQ/EMR/NBS lines on multiple media platforms that no pictures or videos have surfaced of this move. Thomas any idea if they are international or domestic DS?

New ties have been laid out from Millinocket to at least West Seboeis, probably further, and new stick rail has been steadily coming into Millinocket.
