Baltimore area got a Tornado Warning hit around 3:30pm, which caused CSX to stop traffic until 3:55p (when the warning was lifted). Ellicott City got the tornado from what I'm hearing on the local news. Also heard through coworkers and some shared photos that one touched down near BWI Airport.

My latest train ever: 5(28) arrived SLC 13 hours late. Combination of tornado warnings in Indiana, flooding and a reroute into Omaha, and (according to rumors) traction motor blower fuse blown in Denver requiring a UP locomotive added to the front. Nevertheless an enjoyable trip.

Ooooh I think things were even worse. Per Twitter AmtrakAlerts:
12:13A May 29th: California Zephyr Train 5 which departed on 5/28 out of Chicago (CHI) is currently stopped due to freight train interference east of Creston (CRN). Updates to follow as soon as more information becomes available.
2:43A: UPDATE: California Zephyr Train 5 which departed Chicago (CHI) on 5/28 is back on the move and currently operating about 4 hr 15 min late.
7:59A: Update: California Zephyr Train 5 which departed Chicago (CHI) on 05/28 is now on the move currently operating about 8hr 25min late due to earlier freight train congestion outside of Omaha (OMA) as well as a detour and weather related issues between OMA and Creston (CRN).
10:17P: UPDATE: California Zephyr Train 5 which departed Chicago (CHI) on 05/28 is currently operating about 12 hr late due to additional Freight Train interference, mechanical issues, and speed restrictions along the route.

Rail congestion and speed restrictions along the route, per AmtrakAlerts.

A. westbound Capitol Limited #29 (2nd) Dp. WAS 2' 35" late; and

B. westbound Cardinal #51 (2nd) lost about 3'00" Ashland to Cincinnati?
At last report from AmtrakAlerts, 29(02) was hitting congestion east of Cleveland. 51(02) lost 3h15m due to a downed tree on the tracks west of Maysville.

A major derailment occurred on the UP/SP/CP today at 1020A to the East of Wells, NV. The train was carrying munitions but they were unaffected:

Fair Use:
A public-safety alert from the Elko City and County Public Safety Department posted on Twitter said that the train derailed around 10:20 a.m. on Wednesday.
22 cars derailed in the incident, but no hazardous materials were involved and no one was injured, Union Pacific said. The only material spilled was vegetable oil.
Cars were carrying bombs, ammonium nitrate, and grenades, but they were located on the opposite end of the train, away from the derailment.
The UP/Western Pacific route of #5 and #6 joins the SP there. Anyone know of Amtrak delays?

This customized status map of the NEC still shows some of the remaining disruption from the interruption of the 25HZ transmission system between Philadelphia and New York. I can’t find anything on Amtrak’s website about the nature of the disruption; their Twitter account was rapid-fire posting a number of cancellations and lengthy disruptions. Does anyone know if anything official has been circulated yet?
