Keystone trains and the Pennsy being affected. Last night all evening Keystone service was terminated due to caternary issues relating to the storms that swept through the area. Amtrak is repairing them now.

StLouSteve wrote: Tue Jul 09, 2019 7:12 am Saw a news article about a stopped Amtrak in Mendota due to engine failure with passengers on the ROW. Is this the Zephyr? Amtrak probably should double engines on LD now that the Genesis are getting old until new power arrives.

The article mentions that it was the Southwest Chief (#3) and it had two engines. Likely it needed both to provide HEP and sufficient horsepower to travel the route (Esp. Raton Pass).

We hope you are not assuming HEP can come from 2 locos ? It isn't so/. Only one loco provides HEP even on the long auto trains. Only Via has a set up where 2 locos provide HEP to alternate cars. Now with the Chief maybe having more cars for the scouts the HEP might have to be shut off to provide more power to traction motors on the HP loco.

Wondering same myself, Mr. Lustig.

Apparently 21(9) has been wiped from Train Status; who knows if it ever continued its journey. 22(11) is marked Status Unavailable from SAS and shows "Sold Out" (sure, hey), so both 21(9) and 22(11) would appear to have been annulled.

I had more than a passing interest in this. I'm going to Dallas next following weekend, and was "just curious". One Roomette open in each direction; RT $810.

I'll just pay what I must and "tuck it out" in the Friendly Skies.

addendum:
AmtrakAlerts·2h Service Advisory: wrote: Texas Eagle Train 421 that departed Chicago (CHI) on 7/9 is now canceled between Longview (LVW) and San Antonio (SAS). Alternate bus transportation will be provided from LVW to SAS where passengers will board Sunset Limited Train 1 and continue west.

.Service Advisory: Texas Eagle Train 22 scheduled to depart San Antonio (SAS) on 7/11 will now originate at Fort Worth (FTW) due to the late operation of inbound Train 21. Alternate bus transportation provided between SAS and FTW
So it would appear 21(9) made it to Longview. I guess it will be deadheaded to Ft. Worth to handle 22(11). As of a few moments ago, the website shows open seats.

New Orleans Service Modified Due to Hurricane Forecast

New Orleans Service Modified Due to Hurricane Forecast

Routes in each direction affected into this weekend

Amtrak has modified service to and from New Orleans due to the forecasted arrival of hurricane-force storms this weekend. No substitute transportation is available between New Orleans and the points where these routes will temporarily originate and terminate.

Trains 1 & 2, the Amtrak Sunset Limited, ordinarily operates between New Orleans and Los Angeles three days weekly. Through this Sunday, July 14, these trains will terminate and originate in San Antonio.
Trains 19 & 20, the Amtrak Crescent, ordinarily operates daily between New Orleans and New York City. This Friday and Saturday, July 12 and 13, these trains will terminate and originate in Atlanta.
Trains 58 & 59, the Amtrak City of New Orleans, ordinarily operates daily between New Orleans and Chicago. This Friday and Saturday, July 12 & 13, these trains will terminate and originate in Jackson, Miss.

Anyone planning to travel should check their train status on Amtrak.com or our smartphone apps prior to departing, allow extra time to get to the station and be extremely careful in stations and on platforms.

Customers with reservations on trains that are being modified will typically be accommodated on trains with similar departure times or another day. Amtrak will gladly waive additional charges for customers looking to change their reservation during the modified schedule by calling our reservation center at 800-USA-RAIL.

Anyone can subscribe to automated email or text message notifications if Amtrak trains are behind schedule at specific stations. Notifications can be given for up to six trains and stations by either text or email and delivered when you choose - on a single day, every day, or just certain days of the week. Create a subscription at Amtrak.com/DelayAlerts.

Customers with travel plans can review refund information on Amtrak.com. Service Alerts, Passenger Notices and other announcements are posted at Amtrak.com/Alerts.
